UV-531 (2-hydroxy-4-n-octyloxybenzophenone), an ultraviolet absorber, is an anti-aging additive with the chemical formula C21H26O3 and CAS No. 1843-05-6. It is a pale yellow needle-like crystalline powder with a melting point of 47-49℃ and a light transmittance exceeding 90% and 95% at wavelengths of 450nm and 500nm, respectively.
Applications
It is widely used in PE, PVC, PP, PS, PC, plexiglass, polypropylene fiber, and vinyl acetate. Furthermore, it provides good light stabilization for drying phenolic and alkyd varnishes, polyurethanes, acrylics, epoxy resins, and other air-drying products, as well as automotive finishing paints, powder coatings, polyurethanes, and rubber products. The recommended addition level is 0.1%-0.5%.
Plastics Industry: PE, PVC, PP, PS, EVA, PC, etc., typically used at 0.1%–0.5%; often compounded with hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) and antioxidants (such as 1010) to significantly improve outdoor weather resistance; not suitable for thin products requiring extremely high transparency (slight yellowing).
Coatings and Adhesives: Polyurethane paints, acrylic paints, automotive refinish paints, powder coatings; prevents coating discoloration, loss of gloss, and chalking; also used for anti-aging of rubber products.
Fibers and Films: Polypropylene and polyester films; improves lightfastness.
Properties
UV-531, an ultraviolet absorber, provides maximum protection to polymers by absorbing ultraviolet light in the 240-340 nm wavelength range. It helps reduce color, delays yellowing and physical property degradation in polymer materials, and is non-toxic, has low migration, and good material compatibility.
