PRODUCT DETAILS

4A zeolite powder is a sodium aluminosilicate compound with the chemical formula Na₁₂Al₁₂Si₁₂O₄₈·27H₂O. It is named for its cubic three-dimensional framework structure with a pore size of 4.12 Å. Composed of silicon-oxygen and aluminum-oxygen tetrahedra, it possesses a pore size of 0.42 nm, a specific surface area of 600 m²/g, and a calcium ion exchange capacity of 352 mg CaCO₃/g. At room temperature, it is a white powder, insoluble in water but soluble in strong acids and alkalis. Its structure recombines at temperatures exceeding 800℃. Traditional synthesis methods include the water glass method, the kaolin method, and the coal gangue method. The water glass method is a mature process but has a high cost; the kaolin method, which involves roasting the raw ore to convert it into active metakaolin before crystallization, reduces raw material costs but suffers from high energy consumption and environmental pollution. This substance, due to its strong adsorption and non-toxicity, is used as a phosphorus-free detergent additive to replace sodium tripolyphosphate and is applied in fields such as gas drying, catalyst preparation, and soft water treatment.

Chemical Properties: Its chemical formula is Na12Al12Si12O48·27H2O or Na12[(AlO2)12(SiO2)12]·27H2O. It is a three-dimensional framework compound composed of silicon-oxygen and aluminum-oxygen tetrahedra, belonging to the cubic crystal system. The center of the unit cell is a 1.14 Å diameter cavity, which is formed by an 8-membered ring and six similar cavities connected together. The free cavity formed by this 8-membered ring structure has a diameter of 4.12 Å, hence the name 4A zeolite. Traditional synthesis methods include the water glass method, activated clay method, bentonite method, kaolin method, and coal gangue method. The water glass method is mature and easy to control, but it is costly. The activated clay method and bentonite method require the addition of an aluminum source, resulting in higher costs, and the equipment must be corrosion-resistant. The kaolin process and coal gangue process utilize the fact that its aluminum-silica ratio is consistent with that of 4A zeolite to convert it into reactive metakaolin. Zeolite is then produced through a hydrothermal crystallization reaction in a caustic soda aqueous solution. However, this process requires high-temperature roasting of the raw ore, resulting in significant energy consumption and environmental pollution.

It is a non-toxic, odorless, tasteless, and highly free-flowing white powder with strong calcium ion exchange capacity. It is environmentally friendly and an ideal phosphorus-free detergent additive to replace sodium tripolyphosphate. It also has strong surface adsorption capacity, making it an ideal adsorbent and desiccant.

Physical Properties: White solid particles. It has a network structure containing uniform small pores with a pore size of 0.42 nm and a specific surface area of approximately 600 m²/R. It is insoluble in water and organic solvents but soluble in strong alkalis and strong acids. When heated above 800℃, it recrystallizes to form a white silica-like structure. It adsorbs moisture, liquids, gases, and unsaturated organic substances. It has calcium ion exchange capacity, with a theoretical exchange capacity of 352 mg/g CaCO3, typically ranging from 290 to 320 mg/g. It has a whiteness ≥95%, a pH value of 10–11.5, an apparent density of 0.3–0.5 g/cm3, an average particle size of 2 μm, and a particle size distribution ≤4 μm accounting for more than 85%. It is used as an additive in phosphate-free detergents, replacing sodium tripolyphosphate; in the petroleum and other industries, it is used for drying, dehydrating, and purifying gases and liquids, and also as a catalyst and water softener.
